Monday 10/28/2005: ARCH MURTAUGH AWARD winners announced
All the hard work finally paid off for New York (A)'s Ben Holt. The lefty was named the ARCH MURTAUGH AWARD winner in the AMERICAN LEAGUE today. Opposing players hit .218 against Ben this season. While posting an ERA of 2.41 he went 29-4 in 35 starts, fanning 202 and walking 58 hitters. Ben has pitched 4 shutouts and 7 complete games. He's 3rd in the AMERICAN LEAGUE in ERA and 1st in wins! Holt wins the award for the 2nd time in his 8-year career. Awards may not be the most important thing for Toe Nash, but Houston's right-hander smiled as he was named the NATIONAL LEAGUE ARCH MURTAUGH AWARD winner. In 35 starts this year Toe struck out 258 batters in 237.2 innings of work. His ERA is 1.97, his record 23-6. Toe has pitched one shutout and 2 complete games. He's 2nd in the NATIONAL LEAGUE in ERA and 1st in wins!
 
Monday 10/28/2005: Hobbs (CHA) and Slade (HOU) win AL GRIMALDI AWARD
The 2005 AMERICAN LEAGUE AL GRIMALDI AWARD winner has been announced. It's Chicago (A)'s rightfielder Roy Hobbs who really had a great offensive year. His season features a batting average of .306 (188 hits in 615 AB), 60 doubles, 5 triples and 50 taters. Hobbs collected 159 RBI and 137 runs as well. He's 2nd in the AMERICAN LEAGUE in RBIs and 1st in homeruns! Hobbs wins the award for the 3rd time in his 8-year career. The 2005 NATIONAL LEAGUE AL GRIMALDI AWARD winner has been announced as well. It's Houston's third baseman Rico Slade who really had a great offensive year. This year Slade drove in 137 and scored 113 runs while batting .347 with 37 homeruns. He's 2nd in the NATIONAL LEAGUE in batting, 8th in homeruns and 1st in RBI! Slade wins the award for the 3rd time in his 7-year career.
 
Monday 10/28/2005: Alvarez, Jr. (CLE) and Thompson (SLN) win ROOKIE OF THE YEAR
The AMERICAN LEAGUE ROOKIE OF THE YEAR winner was announced today, with Cleveland's leftfielder Manny Alvarez, Jr. earning the trophy for putting up the best numbers among rookies in his league. His season features a batting average of .342 (214 hits in 625 AB), 64 doubles, 10 triples and 33 taters. Alvarez, Jr. collected 115 RBI and 123 runs as well. He's 2nd in the AMERICAN LEAGUE in batting and 9th in RBI! Jack Thompson was named the NATIONAL LEAGUE ROOKIE OF THE YEAR winner today. St. Louis' first baseman put up pretty good numbers for a rookie this year. This 22 year old kid will probably have a long and successful career! Thompson has hit 49 homeruns this year while batting .258. He adds 41 doubles, along with 101 runs scored. He's 3rd in the NATIONAL LEAGUE in RBIs and 1st in homeruns!
 
Sunday 10/13/2005: Zacarias Pagano (CHA) will miss 5 weeks
CHICAGO (A) - Chicago (A)'s Zacarias Pagano suffered a serious injury Sunday in a game against New York (A). Pagano fell down while running the bases and couldn't get up without help. He will miss probably 5 weeks. Chicago (A) wasted no time and rushed him to an hospital. Team officials were informed later that Pagano had suffered a Inflamed Anterior Cruciate Ligament. While compiling an on base percentage of .389, Zacarias hit .307 and slugged .553. He has collected 114 runs batted in this year.
 
Tuesday 10/1/2005: Pitcher of the Month award winners announced
Winner of this months AMERICAN LEAGUE Pitcher of the Month award is Los Angeles (A)'s Jesus Colorado. He went 1-0 in September and finished the month with an ERA of 0.52. He struck out 12 in 34.2 innings. Opposing players hit .258 against Jesus this season. While posting an ERA of 3.68 he went 6-6 in 25 starts, fanning 53 and walking 36 hitters. Houston's pitcher Toe Nash is the NATIONAL LEAGUE winner of the Pitcher of the Month award in September. He went 5-0 in September and finished the month with an ERA of 1.63. He struck out 47 in 38.2 innings. Toe has a record of 23-6 this season, with an ERA of 1.97. In 237.2 Innings he was able to strike out 258 batters. He has 2 complete games and one shutout. He's 2nd in the NATIONAL LEAGUE in ERA and 1st in wins!
 
Tuesday 10/1/2005: Chicago (A)'s Skrba earns Batter of the Month award
The AMERICAN LEAGUE Batter of the Month award goes to Al Skrba, Chicago (A)'s starting first baseman. Al was on fire, hitting .362 with 10 homeruns and 32 RBI. Al has gone 154 for 585 (.263) this season, hitting 39 homeruns and driving in 134 runs. He has scored 112 runs on his own. He's 5th in the AMERICAN LEAGUE in RBIs and 7th in homeruns! Rico Slade of Houston wins his 8th Batter of the Month award for putting up the best numbers in the NATIONAL LEAGUE. He had an on base percentage of .435 and hit .365, while driving in 24 runs. Slade has hit for a .348 average this season. He has 87 extra base hits along with 371 total bases, resulting in a .633 slugging percentage. He's 2nd in the NATIONAL LEAGUE in batting, 7th in homeruns and 1st in RBI!
 
Monday 9/30/2005: Skrba (CHA) and Walls (PIT) win P.O.W. award
Al Skrba wins his 7th Player of the Week award. AMERICAN LEAGUE pitchers couldn't figure out how to retire this guy all week long. Skrba helped his team with an average of .484 and 15 RBI in 31 at bats. He got at least one hit each game this week and is on a 11 game hitting streak right now. The Player of the Week award in the NATIONAL LEAGUE goes to Pittsburgh's LeDarius Walls this time, as the centerfielder displayed the best offensive perfomance in his league. LeDarius went 12 for 20 (.600), while hitting 0 HR and collecting 6 RBI. LeDarius is hitting .344 this year, with 198 hits in 576 at bats. He has driven in 68 runs, slugging .417. He's 3rd in the NATIONAL LEAGUE in batting!
 
Monday 9/23/2005: Minnesota's Miguel Rodallegas gets milestone hit
MILWAUKEE - Minnesota's Miguel Rodallegas showed a smile on his face after he got his 2000th career hit against Milwaukee on Monday. In 14 years of big league action so far, Miguel has compiled a batting average of .283, along with 44 homeruns and 801 RBI. 'I'm out of words. I'll probably realize it tomorrow, but for now I'm done.' His hit in the 9th inning was a single off Paul Atreides.
 
Monday 9/23/2005: Atlanta's McKirby wins Player of the Week award
The AMERICAN LEAGUE's best player of the week was Detroit's Elam Ferguson, who wins the award for the 1st time in his career. He had an on base percentage of .586 and hit .556, while driving in 6 runs. He hit in every game this week and extended his hitting streak to 8 games. It's the 3rd time that the NATIONAL LEAGUE Player of the Week award goes to Atlanta's rightfielder Al McKirby. In 24 at bats he hit .458 with 2 HR and 11 RBI.
 
Friday 9/20/2005: Al McKirby socks five hits for Atlanta
NEW YORK (N) - On Friday, Atlanta's rightfielder Al McKirby displayed his sensational ability to handle the bat against New York (N), punishing their pitchers with five hits. A 391 foot drive to left-center marked his 1st hit, a two-run homerun off Alvin Peņa in the 1st inning. His 2nd hit was a RBI double off Alvin Peņa in the 2nd inning. A two-run double off Mike Litoris in the 9th inning accounted for his 5th hit. He had singles in the 4th and in the 8th inning (one RBI). Al did drive in 6 while scoring 2 runs on his own. He now has a total of 147 hits this season, accounting for a .288 batting average. Atlanta scored 12 runs on 20 hits.
 
Monday 9/16/2005: New York (A)'s Murphy wins Player of the Week award
The AMERICAN LEAGUE's best player of the week was New York (A)'s Michael Murphy, who wins the award for the 7th time in his career. In 22 at bats he hit .409 with 5 HR and 17 RBI. He now has homered in 3 consecutive games as well! His season numbers are: .279 AVG, 133 hits, 37 doubles, 11 triples and 42 longballs, along with 152 RBI and 104 runs scored. He's 1st in the AMERICAN LEAGUE in RBIs and 2nd in homeruns! St. Louis' third baseman Al Freeburger had some reason to celebrate as well, as the league named him the NATIONAL LEAGUE Player of the Week. Al was on fire, hitting .481 with 3 HR and 8 RBI.
 
Monday 9/9/2005: Boston's Rios wins Player of the Week award
Ramon Rios of Boston wins his 1st Player of the Week award for dominating AMERICAN LEAGUE's hitters the entire week. Rios was overpowering all week long, going 2-0 with an ERA of 0.61. Along the way he struck out 12 in 14.2 innings. This season Rios compiled an ERA of 4.16, going 11-8 in 30 starts. He fanned 136 while giving up 148 hits in 175.1 innings. Philadelphia's first baseman Bill Galatis had some reason to celebrate as well, as the league named him the NATIONAL LEAGUE Player of the Week. In 23 at bats he hit .435 with 4 HR and 7 RBI. Bill has gone 97 for 368 (.264) this season, hitting 24 longballs and driving in 79 runs. He has scored 52 runs on his own.
 
Monday 9/2/2005: Hobbs (CHA) and Trovato (HOU) win P.O.W. award
Chicago (A)'s rightfielder Roy Hobbs had some reason to celebrate, as the league named him the AMERICAN LEAGUE Player of the Week. Hobbs helped his team with an average of .417 and 11 RBI in 24 at bats. He now has homered in 3 consecutive games as well! Houston's catcher George Trovato had some reason to celebrate as well, as the league named him the NATIONAL LEAGUE Player of the Week. He hit .526 with 7 RBI and slugged 1.158 in 19 at bats. He hit in every game this week and extended his hitting streak to 7 games. His season features a batting average of .304 (125 hits in 411 AB), 12 doubles, no triples and 19 homeruns. Trovato collected 69 RBI and 63 runs as well.
 
Sunday 9/1/2005: Pitcher of the Month award winners announced
Los Angeles (A)'s pitcher Joe Lowe is the AMERICAN LEAGUE winner of the Pitcher of the Month award in August. His ERA of just 1.73 helped him to a 5-0 record in August. He worked 41.2 innings, striking out 27 hitters while walking 12. Opposing players hit .219 against Joe this season. While posting an ERA of 3.88 he went 14-7 in 32 starts, fanning 119 and walking 90 hitters. He's 10th in the AMERICAN LEAGUE in wins! San Diego's pitcher Bob Bellah is the NATIONAL LEAGUE winner of the Pitcher of the Month award in August. He started 5 games in August, going 3-1 and compiling an ERA of 0.89 in 30.1 innings. Bob fanned 28 hitters. Bob also fired a shutout. His ERA of 1.95 helped him to a 16-3 record this year. He struck out 190 and walked 32 in 189 innings. Bob has pitched one shutout and one complete game. He's 1st in the NATIONAL LEAGUE in ERA and 3rd in wins!

It's the 2nd time that the AMERICAN LEAGUE Batter of the Month award goes to Cleveland's leftfielder Manny Alvarez, Jr.. He hit .429 with 27 RBI and slugged .895 in 105 at bats. He has hit 28 longballs while batting .361 this season. His 184 hits and 39 walks add up to a .406 on-base percentage. He's 2nd in the AMERICAN LEAGUE in batting and 9th in RBI! It's the 7th time that the NATIONAL LEAGUE Batter of the Month award goes to Houston's third baseman Rico Slade. He hit .406 with 30 RBI and slugged .802 in 101 at bats. Saturday 8/31/2005: Chicago (A)'s Roy Hobbs has great day, hits three longballs
CHICAGO (A) - Chicago (A)'s rightfielder Roy Hobbs flexed his muscles and displayed his tremendous power, homering three times in a 18-4 win over Milwaukee. A 384 foot drive to right field marked his 1st bomb, a two-run homerun off Paul Atreides in the 4th inning. A pitch from Paul Atreides in the 5th inning left his bat for a two-run homerun, landing 473 feet from home plate in right field. His 3rd blast, a solo homerun off Juan Manzanas in the 7th inning, landed an estimated 474 feet from home plate. Overall he got 4 hits in 5 AB, stroking a double, scoring FOUR runs and collecting 6 RBI. So far this season he is batting .317 with 42 homers and 132 RBI. On 8/26/2005, Luis Puleo was the last player to hit 3 dingers in a single game. Chicago (A) improved its record to 99-35, scoring 18 runs on 19 hits.
 
Thursday 8/29/2005: Tommy Lovefield punishes Detroit with six hits
DETROIT - Tommy Lovefield hits 'em where they ain't. Detroit certainly agrees as New York (A)'s designated hitter unloaded six hits, adding to his reputation of being one of the best pure hitters in the game. Number 1 in the 1st inning accounted for a RBI double. In the 2nd inning he unloaded a solo homerun off Jimmy Flynn. His 5th hit, a three-run homerun off John Popp in the 8th inning, cleared the fence in center field. He collected singles in the 3rd inning (one RBI) , in the 7th and in the 9th inning (one RBI). Tommy did drive in 7 while scoring 5 runs on his own. This season has been a good one for him so far, as he has 145 hits in 466 at bats, resulting in a .311 batting average. The final score of the game was 17-0.
 
Thursday 8/29/2005: John Kolman punishes Detroit with five hits
DETROIT - New York (A)'s third baseman John Kolman once again displayed his tremendous ability to make contact with that little white ball. He tore up Detroit's pitching staff with a 5 hit performance on Thursday. Number 3 in the 7th inning, a shot estimated at 398 feet, cleared the wall in left-center. In the 8th inning he belted a double off Levi Cotton. A two-run double off Levi Cotton in the 9th inning accounted for his 5th hit. He collected singles in the 1st (one RBI) and in the 3rd inning (one RBI). John scored one run, and he collected 6 RBI as well! He is hitting .327 this season, with 13 HR and 83 RBI. The final score of the game was 17-0.
 
Monday 8/26/2005: Luis Puleo punishes Houston with three dingers
COLORADO - Colorado's third baseman Luis Puleo flexed his muscles and displayed his tremendous power, homering three times in a 6-5 win over Houston. His 1st shot, off Edwin Jenner in the 3rd inning, was a solo homerun and cleared the fence in left field. It tied the ballgame at 2. In the 8th inning he unloaded a two-run homerun off Grant Gigee. The game was tied, 4-4, after the blast. A 435 foot drive to left field marked his 3rd bomb, a solo homerun off Anders Holmvik in the 10th inning. His final blast of the game capped his performance as it won the game, setting the crowd on fire! Luis went 3 for 4, scoring three runs with 4 RBI. On 6/24/2005, Roy Hobbs was the last player to hit 3 dingers in a single game. Colorado scored 6 runs on 10 hits.
 
Monday 8/26/2005: San Diego's Ziebold wins Player of the Week award
It's the 3rd time that the AMERICAN LEAGUE Player of the Week award goes to Chicago (A)'s shortstop Steve Harnden. Steve pounded opposing pitchers, hitting .636 with 1 HR and 5 RBI while slugging 1.091. He hit in every game this week and extended his hitting streak to 14 games. Steve has gone 175 for 473 (.370) this season, hitting 12 longballs and driving in 68 runs. He has scored 122 runs on his own. He's 1st in the AMERICAN LEAGUE in batting! Jack Ziebold from San Diego wins his 6th Player of the Week award for putting up the best numbers this week in the NATIONAL LEAGUE. Jack was on fire, hitting .458 with 4 HR and 10 RBI. He hit in every game this week and extended his hitting streak to 9 games. Jack has gone 118 for 435 (.271) this season, hitting 33 longballs and driving in 93 runs. He has scored 101 runs on his own. He's 6th in the NATIONAL LEAGUE in RBIs and 5th in homeruns!
 
Monday 8/19/2005: Flavors and Trovato win Player of the Week award
Julius Flavors wins his 6th Player of the Week award. AMERICAN LEAGUE pitchers couldn't figure out how to retire this guy all week long. Julius went 14 for 28 (.500), while hitting 3 HR and collecting 5 RBI. He got at least one hit each game this week and is on a 13 game hitting streak right now. His season features a batting average of .316 (155 hits in 491 AB), 28 doubles, 9 triples and 12 bombs. Flavors collected 65 RBI and 69 runs as well. The Player of the Week award in the NATIONAL LEAGUE goes to Houston's George Trovato this time, as the catcher displayed the best offensive perfomance in his league. He hit .500 with 9 RBI and slugged 1.150 in 20 at bats. He now has homered in 3 consecutive games as well! Trovato has hit for a .291 average this season. He has 26 extra base hits along with 166 total bases, resulting in a .439 slugging percentage.
 
Friday 8/16/2005: Julius Flavors punishes Baltimore with four hits, cycle
MILWAUKEE - Julius Flavors led Milwaukee to a 6-4 win over Baltimore by squeezing four hits out of his bat. That's not the best part, though. He hit for the cycle as well! A RBI double off Derek Lambert in the 3rd inning accounted for his 1st hit. In the 5th inning he unloaded a solo homerun off Derek Lambert. A single in the 7th off Toro Yataro accounted for his 3rd hit. His 4th hit was a triple off Dickie Bonifay in the 9th inning. That drive completed the cycle, causing a smile on his face! Julius scored one run, and he collected 2 RBI as well! He now has a total of 152 hits this season, accounting for a .315 batting average. He's now the 207th player in league history to hit for the cycle! Steve Harnden was the last player to hit for the cycle, doing it 7/15/2005.
 
Monday 8/12/2005: Milwaukee's Boles wins Player of the Week award
It's the 1st time that the AMERICAN LEAGUE Player of the Week award goes to Milwaukee's shortstop Danny Boles. Danny went 13 for 19 (.684), while hitting 0 HR and collecting 8 RBI. Danny has gone 128 for 389 (.329) this season, hitting 4 taters and driving in 58 runs. He has scored 44 runs on his own. He's 7th in the AMERICAN LEAGUE in batting! The NATIONAL LEAGUE's best player of the week was St. Louis' Jack Thompson, who wins the award for the 1st time in his career. Jack was on fire, hitting .480 with 5 HR and 16 RBI. He hit in every game this week and extended his hitting streak to 7 games.
 
Sunday 8/11/2005: Korben Dallas out for 5 weeks
TORONTO - Toronto's season has taken a hit after one of their best players, catcher Korben Dallas, injured himself while rounding a base. He is likely to miss 5 weeks. After being examined by several specialists the diagnosis is clear: Torn Thigh Muscle. This year Dallas drove in 54 and scored 39 runs while batting .305 with 10 bombs.
 
Tuesday 8/6/2005: Bob Bellah blanks San Francisco with a 2-hitter
SAN DIEGO - Bob Bellah, usually uneffective, had a great performance against San Francisco on Tuesday, pitching a 2-hitter for his 1st shutout of the season. 'I had a good grip on the ball today and I was able to put it where I wanted. That kept them out of balance.' Bellah (15-2) was overpowering, fanning 11 while walking none, throwing 99 pitches. The hitting star for San Diego was rightfielder Finn Gage, he finished with 1 hit in 3 AB. San Diego scored 1 run on 3 hits.
 
Monday 8/5/2005: Alvarez, Jr. and Trovato win Player of the Week award
Manny Alvarez, Jr. wins his 2nd Player of the Week award. AMERICAN LEAGUE pitchers couldn't figure out how to retire this guy all week long. He had an on base percentage of .478 and hit .455, while driving in 6 runs. While compiling an on base percentage of .395, Manny hit .347 and slugged .610. He has collected 72 runs batted in this year. He's 2nd in the AMERICAN LEAGUE in batting! George Trovato from Houston wins his 6th Player of the Week award for putting up the best numbers this week in the NATIONAL LEAGUE. He hit .480 with 12 RBI and slugged 1.080 in 25 at bats.
 
Friday 8/2/2005: Rico Slade punishes New York (N) with five hits
NEW YORK (N) - Houston's third baseman Rico Slade once again displayed his tremendous ability to make contact with that little white ball. He tore up New York (N)'s pitching staff with a 5 hit performance on Friday. His 1st hit, off Marc Zukerman in the 1st inning, was a two-run homerun and cleared the fence in right field. A pitch from Marc Zukerman in the 4th inning left his bat for a two-run homerun, landing 360 feet from home plate in left field. He collected singles in the 3rd inning , in the 6th and in the 8th . Rico did drive in 4 while scoring 3 runs on his own. This season has been a good one for him so far, as he has 134 hits in 396 at bats, resulting in a .338 batting average. Houston scored 10 runs on 17 hits.
 
Thursday 8/1/2005: Pitcher of the Month award winners announced
Hank Vlasic couldn't have pitched much better than he did in July, and the AMERICAN LEAGUE thought so as well, naming the right-hander Pitcher of the Month. He struck out 27 hitters in his 5 starts, putting together a record of 4-0 while pitching 27 innings. His ERA in July was 1.65. Hank has a record of 13-3 this season, with an ERA of 2.58. In 129 Innings he was able to strike out 122 batters. He's 4th in the AMERICAN LEAGUE in ERA and 5th in wins! Philadelphia's Jay Berwanger had a terrific July, and it earned him the NATIONAL LEAGUE Pitcher of the month award. He had an ERA of just 1.32 in 27.1 innings of work in which he struck out 15 hitters. His record in July is 3-0. This season Berwanger compiled an ERA of 2.46, going 6-2 in 21 starts. He fanned 83 while giving up 100 hits in 109.2 innings.
 
Thursday 8/1/2005: Red hot Alvarez, Jr. and Heinz win Batter of the Month award
The AMERICAN LEAGUE Batter of the Month award goes to Manny Alvarez, Jr., Cleveland's starting leftfielder. He had an on base percentage of .460 and hit .412, while driving in 22 runs. His season features a batting average of .343 (139 hits in 405 AB), 39 doubles, 5 triples and 18 bombs. Alvarez, Jr. collected 69 RBI and 81 runs as well. He's 3rd in the AMERICAN LEAGUE in batting! The Batter of the Month award in the NATIONAL LEAGUE goes to San Francisco's John Heinz this time, as the catcher displayed the best offensive perfomance in his league. Heinz helped his team with an average of .440 and 20 RBI in 91 at bats. Heinz has hit for a .334 average this season. He has 40 extra base hits along with 191 total bases, resulting in a .546 slugging percentage. He's 7th in the NATIONAL LEAGUE in batting!
 
Monday 7/29/2005: Vamos and Boyle win Player of the Week award
Los Angeles (A)'s leftfielder Frank Vamos had some reason to celebrate, as the league named him the AMERICAN LEAGUE Player of the Week. He had an on base percentage of .435 and hit .429, while driving in 8 runs. It's the 2nd time that the NATIONAL LEAGUE Player of the Week award goes to San Diego's second baseman Tanner Boyle. Tanner was on fire, hitting .407 with 5 HR and 12 RBI. He got at least one hit each game this week and is on a 10 game hitting streak right now. His season numbers are: .262 AVG, 98 hits, 7 doubles, 4 triples and 20 homeruns, along with 54 RBI and 73 runs scored.
 
Monday 7/22/2005: Jackson Briggs pitches 2-hit shutout against Pittsburgh
ST. LOUIS - Jackson Briggs had an unexpectedly great performance against Pittsburgh on Monday, pitching a 2-hitter for his 2nd shutout of the season. With no outs in the 5th inning Genaro Riojas singled to break up the no-hitter. Briggs (9-5) struck out none and issued 1 BB, throwing 60 of 90 pitches for strikes. 'I didn't feel that I had good stuff while warming up. But it got better the more I threw the ball. I guess I was lucky.' Domingo Laureiro helped Briggs at the plate, he stroked 1 hit in 4 AB. The final score of the game was 1-0.
 
Monday 7/22/2005: Archie Freeman turns in great performance against Toronto
MILWAUKEE - Archie Freeman had an unexpectedly great performance against Toronto on Monday, pitching a 2-hitter for his 2nd shutout of the season. Freeman (8-7) showed excellent control, walking nobody and fanning 3. 'My catcher called a very good game. I have to give credit to him.' Milwaukee's rightfielder Gavin Hood stroked 2 hits in 3 AB, blasting a homerun. That was enough to support the brilliant performance of Freeman. Milwaukee scored 4 runs on 7 hits.
 
Monday 7/22/2005: Damien Echols turns in great performance against Detroit

It's the 12th time that the AMERICAN LEAGUE Player of the Week award goes to Chicago (A)'s third baseman Brian Rich. Sunday 7/21/2005: Pittsburgh's Riley out for 4 weeks
PITTSBURGH - Being hit with a pitch is no fun at all. Especially when you get injured. Pittsburgh's first baseman Liam Riley will miss about 4 weeks after being hit by Ruben Nieves in the 4th inning of the game between Pittsburgh and Atlanta. Riley was rushed to an hospital near the ballpark, where doctors took x-rays. Those revealed the serious injury, Fractured Jaw. While compiling an on base percentage of .347, Liam hit .316 and slugged .451. He has collected 50 runs batted in this year.
 
Monday 7/15/2005: Steve Harnden punishes Toronto with five hits, cycle
TORONTO - Chicago (A)'s shortstop Steve Harnden once again displayed his tremendous ability to make contact with that little white ball. He tore up Toronto's pitching staff with a 5 hit performance on Monday. A double off Al Czervik in the 1st inning accounted for his 1st hit. His 2nd hit, a solo homerun off Al Czervik in the 3rd inning, cleared the fence in left field. A single in the 5th off Al Czervik accounted for his 3rd hit. In the 9th inning he unloaded a triple off Scott Kobak. That drive completed the cycle, causing a smile on his face! In the 12th inning he belted a double off Milo Minderbinder. Steve did drive in one while scoring 2 runs on his own. He's having a very good season so far, batting .363. He's now the 206th player in league history to hit for the cycle! Armani Michaels was the last player to hit for the cycle, doing it 4/22/2005.
 
Monday 7/15/2005: Chicago (N)'s Kreitenberg wins Player of the Week award
It's the 2nd time that the AMERICAN LEAGUE Player of the Week award goes to Washington's leftfielder Earl Manigault. Earl pounded opposing pitchers, hitting .353 with 3 HR and 9 RBI while slugging .882. Earl managed to drive in at least one run in every game he played this week. Earl is hitting .272 this year, with 82 hits in 301 at bats. He has driven in 64 runs, slugging .545. The Player of the Week award in the NATIONAL LEAGUE goes to Chicago (N)'s Avi Kreitenberg this time, as the shortstop displayed the best offensive perfomance in his league. Kreitenberg helped his team with an average of .412 and 10 RBI in 17 at bats. Kreitenberg has hit 18 homeruns this year while batting .318. He adds 25 doubles, along with 60 runs scored.
 
Sunday 7/14/2005: Dirk Hudson quiets New York (N) bats with shutout
ATLANTA - Dirk Hudson had an unexpectedly great performance against New York (N) on Sunday, pitching a 1-hitter for his 1st shutout of the season. Hudson (7-7) showed excellent control, walking nobody and fanning 2. 'I had a good grip on the ball today and I was able to put it where I wanted. That kept them out of balance.' The hitting star for Atlanta was shortstop Eddie Morra, he stroked 2 hits in 4 AB, homering once, and driving in 4 runs. Atlanta improved its record to 49-39, scoring 6 runs on 9 hits.

MINNESOTA - Emile Khadaji had an unexpectedly great performance against Los Angeles (A) on Sunday, pitching a 1-hitter for his 6th shutout of the season. NEW YORK (N) - Marc Zukerman had a historical performance against Los Angeles (N) on Saturday, pitching a no-hitter for his 1st shutout of the season. Zukerman (4-7) struck out 6 and issued 4 BB, throwing 58 of 112 pitches for strikes. 'Wow, what a nice day. I guess I had a good breakfast today. That's a dream coming true for me!' The AMERICAN LEAGUE's best player of the week was Cleveland's Manny Alvarez, Jr., who wins the award for the 1st time in his career. Manny pounded opposing pitchers, hitting .520 with 2 HR and 8 RBI while slugging .840. This year Alvarez, Jr. drove in 55 and scored 58 runs while batting .335 with 15 taters. Monday 7/1/2005: Mullins and Crown receive Pitcher of the Month award
Aaron Mullins couldn't have pitched much better than he did in June, and the AMERICAN LEAGUE thought so as well, naming the southpaw Pitcher of the Month. He struck out 28 hitters in his 5 starts, putting together a record of 2-1 while pitching 28 innings. His ERA in June was 0.51. His ERA of 2.29 helped him to a 9-2 record this year. He struck out 79 and walked 35 in 102.1 innings. He's 2nd in the AMERICAN LEAGUE in ERA and 8th in wins! Los Angeles (N)'s pitcher Floyd Crown is the NATIONAL LEAGUE winner of the Pitcher of the Month award in June. He struck out 33 hitters in his 6 starts, putting together a record of 4-0 while pitching 33 innings. His ERA in June was 1.01. Floyd pitched a shutout as well. Opposing players hit .215 against Floyd this season. While posting an ERA of 1.99 he went 10-3 in 18 starts, fanning 98 and walking 23 hitters. He has one complete game and one shutout. He's 3rd in the NATIONAL LEAGUE in ERA and 3rd in wins!

Pharoah Jackson spoiled the bid for a no-hitter when he doubled with no outs in the 7th inning. 'I had my stuff going. Everything I tried worked. What a day!' Varga (7-7) showed excellent control, walking nobody and fanning 3. Terry Martin helped Varga at the plate, he got 3 hits in 4 AB. Toronto scored 2 runs on 8 hits.
 
Monday 6/24/2005: St. Louis' Mike Wargaski has great day with six hits
ST. LOUIS - St. Louis' second baseman Mike Wargaski once again displayed his tremendous ability to make contact with that little white ball. He tore up San Diego's pitching staff with a 6 hit performance on Monday. Number 1 in the 1st inning accounted for a RBI double. It tied the ballgame at 2. BALTIMORE - Roy Hobbs can hit'em a long way, and Baltimore pitchers couldn't smile about that today. Chicago (A)'s rightfielder unloaded three bombs, adding to his reputation of being one of the best power hitters in the game. His 1st shot, off Stanley Goodspeed in the 3rd inning, was a two-run homerun and cleared the fence in right-center. Number 2 in the 4th inning, a shot estimated at 436 feet, cleared the wall in center field. In the 5th inning he unloaded a solo homerun off J.R. Bowe. WASHINGTON - Jerry Tingle had a historical performance against Washington on Sunday, pitching a perfect game for his 2nd shutout of the season. The crowd of 30308 gave him a standing ovation when teammates carried him off the field on their shoulders. Tingle (8-5) struck out 7 and walked none, throwing 60 of 95 pitches for strikes. 'I really like to play baseball, and I love the way I was able to play it today. I still cannot believe I did it.' Saturday 6/8/2005: Tommy Prindle (NYN) will miss 4-5 weeks
NEW YORK (N) - New York (N)'s players were scared when they had to watch Tommy Prindle suffer a serious injury when he dove for a ball in the game against San Diego. He collapsed in pain and was helped off the field. Prindle will probaby miss 4-5 weeks. Doctors examined him after the game and diagnosed a Fractured Hand which will require surgery. Tommy has gone 72 for 220 (.327) this season, hitting 13 homeruns and driving in 32 runs. He has scored 39 runs on his own. He's 10th in the NATIONAL LEAGUE in batting!

His 1st shot, off Russell Bohnsack in the 1st inning, was a solo homerun and cleared the fence in right-center. The game was tied, 1-1, after the blast. His 2nd blast, a solo homerun off Russell Bohnsack in the 3rd inning, landed an estimated 376 feet from home plate. Number 3 in the 6th inning, a shot estimated at 434 feet, cleared the wall in left field. Tommy collected 3 hits in 4 trips to the plate, scoring three runs with 4 RBI. Saturday 6/1/2005: New York (A)'s Holt earns Pitcher of the Month award
New York (A)'s Ben Holt had a terrific May, and it earned him the AMERICAN LEAGUE Pitcher of the month award. He had an ERA of just 1.93 in 46.2 innings of work in which he struck out 25 hitters. His record in May is 6-0. In 11 starts this year Ben struck out 50 batters in 80.2 innings of work. His ERA is 2.23, his record 9-1. He's 3rd in the AMERICAN LEAGUE in ERA and 2nd in wins! Toe Nash couldn't have pitched much better than he did in May, and the NATIONAL LEAGUE thought so as well, naming the right-hander Pitcher of the Month. He went 6-0 in May and finished the month with an ERA of 0.58. He struck out 60 in 46.1 innings. Toe pitched a shutout as well. Opposing players hit .133 against Toe this season. While posting an ERA of 1.59 he went 9-0 in 11 starts, fanning 98 and walking 26 hitters. He has one complete game and one shutout. He's 3rd in the NATIONAL LEAGUE in ERA and 1st in wins!

Wednesday 5/29/2005: Francesco Zabaleta on fire, crushes three
HOUSTON - Hitting homeruns is one of the most difficult things in sports. To hit three of them in one game is almost sensational. Colorado's centerfielder Francesco Zabaleta accomplished that feat in a 11-7 win over Houston. His 1st shot, off Jamie Duncalf in the 1st inning, was a solo homerun and cleared the fence in left-center. His 2nd shot, a two-run homerun off Jamie Duncalf in the 2nd inning, cleared the fence in left field. A pitch from Grant Gigee in the 6th inning left his bat for a two-run homerun, landing 392 feet from home plate in left-center. Francesco got 3 hits in 5 AB, scoring three times with 5 RBI. His homerun total this year is 9, along with 23 RBI. The induction into the Hall of Fame is almost a sure thing for him now! On 4/13/2005, Tommy Prindle was the last player to hit 3 dingers in a single game. Colorado improved its record to 23-28, scoring 11 runs on 13 hits.
 
Wednesday 5/29/2005: Mike Marcella out for 6 weeks
NEW YORK (A) - New York (A)'s rightfielder Mike Marcella hurt himself in the 8th inning while diving for a batted ball. He got up slowly and had to leave the game. Mike Marcella will miss at least 6 weeks. New York (A) wasted no time and rushed him to an hospital. Team officials were informed later that Marcella had suffered a Broken Hand. His season numbers are: .250 AVG, 43 hits, 12 doubles, no triples and 2 homeruns, along with 23 RBI and 30 runs scored.

New York (A)'s leftfielder Scott Borders had some reason to celebrate, as the league named him the AMERICAN LEAGUE Player of the Week. Borders helped his team with an average of .500 and 6 RBI in 22 at bats. He hit in every game this week and extended his hitting streak to 12 games. While compiling an on base percentage of .406, Scott hit .341 and slugged .631. He has collected 60 runs batted in this year. He's 8th in the AMERICAN LEAGUE in batting, 6th in homeruns and 1st in RBI! Pittsburgh's shortstop Brandon Duffin had some reason to celebrate as well, as the league named him the NATIONAL LEAGUE Player of the Week. Duffin helped his team with an average of .478 and 5 RBI in 23 at bats. Duffin has hit for a .312 average this season. He has 15 extra base hits along with 81 total bases, resulting in a .476 slugging percentage.

OAKLAND - Manny Alvarez, Jr. hits 'em where they ain't. Oakland certainly agrees as Cleveland's leftfielder unloaded five hits, adding to his reputation of being one of the best pure hitters in the game. His 2nd hit was a double off Boris Guzman in the 3rd inning. A double off Carlos Barba in the 7th inning accounted for his 4th hit. His 5th hit, a solo homerun off Phil Dick in the 8th inning, landed an estimated 463 feet from home plate. He collected singles in the 1st and in the 5th inning . Manny did drive in one while scoring 2 runs on his own. This season has been a good one for him so far, as he has 61 hits in 180 at bats, resulting in a .339 batting average. His season features a batting average of .365 (58 hits in 159 AB), 18 doubles, one triple and 4 longballs. Slowik collected 20 RBI and 28 runs as well. He's 4th in the AMERICAN LEAGUE in batting! The Player of the Week award in the NATIONAL LEAGUE goes to San Francisco's Jeremy Tomasulo this time, as the shortstop displayed the best offensive perfomance in his league. Tomasulo helped his team with an average of .565 and 14 RBI in 23 at bats. Jeremy managed to drive in at least one run in every game he played this week.
 
Saturday 5/18/2005: Bill Galatis (PHI) will miss 5-6 weeks
PHILADELPHIA - Being hit with a pitch is no fun at all. Especially when you get injured. Philadelphia's first baseman Bill Galatis will miss about 5-6 weeks after being hit by Luis Cid in the 10th inning of the game between Philadelphia and New York (N). After being taken to a local hospital, Galatis was examined by specialists. The diagnosis revealed the sad truth, a Broken Cheekbone. Galatis has hit for a .267 average this season. He has 11 extra base hits along with 65 total bases, resulting in a .445 slugging percentage.
 
Thursday 5/16/2005: Rene Toussaint shuts out Oakland on one hit
MINNESOTA - Rene Toussaint had an unexpectedly great performance against Oakland on Thursday, pitching a 1-hitter for his 1st shutout of the season. 'They took some ugly cuts at my breaking stuff, so I kept throwing it. Fortunately they were not able to adjust in time.' Toussaint (3-4) fanned 4 and walked none, throwing 91 pitches. Minnesota's designated hitter Ryan Dunn finished 2 for 3, and collecting 3 RBI. That was enough to support the brilliant performance of Toussaint. Minnesota scored 4 runs on 7 hits.
 
Wednesday 5/15/2005: Lloyd Christmas has 2000th career hits
NEW YORK (N) - New York (N)'s leftfielder Lloyd Christmas was in good mood after the game against Pittsburgh, and he had every reason as he made some history while collecting his 2000th career hit. With one out in the 6th inning, Lloyd drilled a three run homerun, causing a standing ovation from the crowd. Along with his 2000 hits, Lloyd collected 65 homeruns and 706 RBI in 9 seasons. 'It's hard to believe that I did it. I want to thank my family, my friends and my teammates!'
 
Monday 5/13/2005: St. Louis' Van Bergen wins Player of the Week award
Eliezer Nazabal from Cleveland wins his 10th Player of the Week award for putting up the best numbers this week in the AMERICAN LEAGUE. Eliezer pounded opposing pitchers, hitting .542 with 4 HR and 6 RBI while slugging 1.125. He hit in every game this week and extended his hitting streak to 8 games. Eliezer is hitting .313 this year, with 36 hits in 115 at bats. He has driven in 20 runs, slugging .583. Ryan Van Bergen wins his 1st Player of the Week award. NATIONAL LEAGUE pitchers couldn't figure out how to retire this guy all week long. Ryan went 12 for 23 (.522), while hitting 1 HR and collecting 6 RBI.
 
Thursday 5/9/2005: New York (A)'s Chad Kahle mashes six hits
CLEVELAND - Chad Kahle hits 'em where they ain't. Cleveland certainly agrees as New York (A)'s second baseman unloaded six hits, adding to his reputation of being one of the best pure hitters in the game. A pitch from Duncan Idaho in the 2nd inning left his bat for a RBI double. He collected singles in the 1st inning , in the 4th , in the 6th , in the 7th and in the 8th . Chad did drive in one while scoring 3 runs on his own. He's having a very good season so far, batting .421. New York (A) scored 15 runs on 22 hits.
 
Thursday 5/9/2005: Armin Tamzarian quiets Washington bats with shutout
WASHINGTON - Armin Tamzarian had an unexpectedly great performance against Washington on Thursday, pitching a 1-hitter for his 1st shutout of the season. 'I'll have to give a lot of credit to my catcher. He put all the right fingers down today.' Tamzarian (3-2) fanned 7 and walked 1, throwing 97 pitches. Damian Backus provided Detroit with the offense Tamzarian needed as he collected 2 hits in 3 trips to the plate, homering once, and collecting 3 RBI. The final score of the game was 6-0.
 
Monday 5/6/2005: Milwaukee's Freeman wins Player of the Week award
The AMERICAN LEAGUE's best player of the week was Milwaukee's Archie Freeman, who wins the award for the 1st time in his career. Archie went 2-0 with an ERA of 0.51, while fanning 18 in 17.2 innings of work. He hurled a shutout as well. Rico Slade wins his 12th Player of the Week award. NATIONAL LEAGUE pitchers couldn't figure out how to retire this guy all week long. Rico went 12 for 24 (.500), while hitting 3 HR and collecting 5 RBI.
 
Saturday 5/4/2005: Pete Kahle unloads, hits number 600
NEW YORK (A) - Los Angeles (A)'s first baseman Pete Kahle was in good mood after the game against New York (A), and he had every reason as he made baseball history while collecting his 600th career homerun. His historic shot, off Matt Hults in the 6th inning, was a two-run homerun and cleared the fence in right field. In 15 years of big league action so far, Pete has compiled a batting average of .318, along with 2843 hits and 2141 RBI. Pete hit 30+ homeruns in a season 12 times, hitting 40 bombs 10 times. 'It's hard to believe that I did it. I want to thank my family, my friends and my teammates!' It's no secret that he will one day be in the Hall of Fame!
 
Wednesday 5/1/2005: Emile Khadaji quiets Detroit bats with shutout
DETROIT - Emile Khadaji, usually uneffective, had a great performance against Detroit on Wednesday, pitching a 2-hitter for his 2nd shutout of the season. Khadaji (4-0) struck out 8 and issued 1 BB, throwing 71 of 114 pitches for strikes. 'Today I just felt fine. I had a good feeling while warming up.' The hitting star for Minnesota was designated hitter Miguel Rodallegas, he stroked 2 hits in 6 AB, doubling once, and collecting 5 RBI. The final score of the game was 11-0.
 
Wednesday 5/1/2005: Pitcher of the Month award winners announced
Hank Scorpio couldn't have pitched much better than he did in April, and the AMERICAN LEAGUE thought so as well, naming the left-hander Pitcher of the Month. He struck out 29 hitters in his 5 starts, putting together a record of 5-0 while pitching 29 innings. His ERA in April was 1.67. Ruben Nieves couldn't have pitched much better than he did in April, and the NATIONAL LEAGUE thought so as well, naming the left-hander Pitcher of the Month. His record of 6-0 in 6 was among the leagues best this month. In 44 innings of work he allowed just 27 hits while striking out 32, compiling an ERA of just 0.61.
 
Wednesday 5/1/2005: Rich (CHA) and Prindle (NYN) win monthly award
Brian Rich of Chicago (A) wins his 6th Batter of the Month award for putting up the best numbers in the AMERICAN LEAGUE. He had an on base percentage of .440 and hit .371, while driving in 25 runs. The NATIONAL LEAGUE's best player of the month was New York (N)'s Tommy Prindle, who wins the award for the 3rd time in his career. Tommy went 37 for 93 (.398), while hitting 8 HR and collecting 16 RBI.
 
Monday 4/29/2005: Player of the Week honors go to Meeks and Django
Minnesota's first baseman Darold Meeks had some reason to celebrate, as the league named him the AMERICAN LEAGUE Player of the Week. Meeks helped his team with an average of .474 and 9 RBI in 19 at bats. Darold has gone 32 for 86 (.372) this season, hitting 5 taters and driving in 21 runs. He has scored 17 runs on his own. He's 4th in the AMERICAN LEAGUE in batting and 9th in RBI! The NATIONAL LEAGUE Player of the Week award goes to Casey Django, St. Louis' starting centerfielder. Casey was on fire, hitting .440 with 2 HR and 11 RBI. Django has walked 9 times this year and posts a .367 OBP. While batting .304, 24 for 79, he has driven in 18 runs.
 
Monday 4/22/2005: Armani Michaels punishes Colorado with four hits, cycle
CINCINNATI - Armani Michaels is a pretty good hitter, but his 4 hit performance seemed to surprise even himself considering that the hits added up to the cycle, one of the most difficult things to accomplish in baseball. A double off Derrick Allen in the 1st inning accounted for his 1st hit. Hit number 2 followed in the 5th inning, a triple. His 3rd hit, a solo homerun off Isao Ito in the 6th inning, landed an estimated 428 feet from home plate. A single in the 8th off Zane Hazzard accounted for his 4th hit. That drive completed the cycle, causing a smile on his face! Armani scored 2 runs, and he collected one RBI as well! He now has a total of 12 hits this season, accounting for a .211 batting average. He becomes the 205th player in league history collect at least a single, double, triple and a homerun in a single game. Puggy Weaver was the last player to hit for the cycle, doing it 10/28/2004.
 
Monday 4/22/2005: New York (N)'s Prindle wins Player of the Week award
Brian Brzozowski from Cleveland wins his 7th Player of the Week award for putting up the best numbers this week in the AMERICAN LEAGUE. Brian was on fire, hitting .417 with 4 HR and 9 RBI. His season numbers are: .328 AVG, 19 hits, 2 doubles, no triples and 8 homeruns, along with 21 RBI and 13 runs scored. He's 2nd in the AMERICAN LEAGUE in RBIs and 1st in homeruns! The Player of the Week award in the NATIONAL LEAGUE goes to New York (N)'s Tommy Prindle this time, as the centerfielder displayed the best offensive perfomance in his league. He hit .520 with 6 RBI and slugged .960 in 25 at bats. He got at least one hit each game this week and is on a 10 game hitting streak right now. His season features a batting average of .417 (25 hits in 60 AB), 3 doubles, no triples and 7 bombs. Prindle collected 11 RBI and 13 runs as well. He's 2nd in the NATIONAL LEAGUE in batting!
 
Saturday 4/20/2005: Arnold Rimmer pitches 2-hit shutout against Houston
COLORADO - Arnold Rimmer had an unexpectedly great performance against Houston on Saturday, pitching a 2-hitter for his 1st shutout of the season. The bid for a no-hitter was broken up when Marcus McCool doubled with one out in the 5th inning. 'That was one of the best games of my career. I had my stuff working very well today.' Rimmer (1-2) showed excellent control, walking nobody and fanning 3. Colorado's second baseman Ramon Ruiz-Sanchez finished with 2 hits in 3 AB, hitting a homerun, hitting a double. That was enough to support the brilliant performance of Rimmer. Colorado scored 2 runs on 4 hits.
 
Monday 4/15/2005: San Diego's Eggert wins Player of the Week award
Al Skrba from Chicago (A) wins his 6th Player of the Week award for putting up the best numbers this week in the AMERICAN LEAGUE. Al went 10 for 25 (.400), while hitting 4 HR and collecting 11 RBI. His season features a batting average of .368 (14 hits in 38 AB), 3 doubles, one triple and 5 bombs. Skrba collected 14 RBI and 13 runs as well. He's 10th in the AMERICAN LEAGUE in batting, 1st in homeruns and 2nd in RBI! The NATIONAL LEAGUE's best player of the week was San Diego's Tag Eggert, who wins the award for the 1st time in his career. Tag pounded opposing pitchers, hitting .650 with 1 HR and 7 RBI while slugging .900.
 
Sunday 4/14/2005: Jackson Briggs fires 1-hitter against Houston
ST. LOUIS - Jackson Briggs had an unexpectedly great performance against Houston on Sunday, pitching a 1-hitter for his 1st shutout of the season. 'Well, the ball went where I wanted it. I was able to hit the corners with all of my pitches.' Briggs (1-0) struck out 2 and walked 1, throwing 55 of 91 pitches for strikes. Mike Wargaski helped Briggs at the plate, he finished 1 for 3, hitting a homerun. St. Louis improved its record to 8-1, scoring 2 runs on 6 hits.
 
Saturday 4/13/2005: Tommy Prindle found the stroke, smashes three homers
ATLANTA - Tommy Prindle was in a groove, and the results spoke for themselves. He powered New York (N) to a 11-2 win over Atlanta by homering three times. In the 3rd inning he unloaded a solo homerun off Mark Bieber. His 2nd blast, a two-run homerun off Maynard Keenan in the 5th inning, landed an estimated 447 feet from home plate. Number 3 in the 7th inning, a shot estimated at 399 feet, cleared the wall in right-center. Overall he went 3 for 5, with three runs scored with 4 RBI. So far this season he is batting .343 with 4 homers and 5 RBI.
 
Tuesday 4/9/2005: Chicago (A)'s Joe Cronin, Jr. crushes homerun #600
CHICAGO (A) - Joe Cronin, Jr. got a standing ovation from 30536 fans in Chicago (A), who witnessed his historic 600th career homerun. His historic shot, off K.C. Ledbetter in the 8th inning, was a three-run homerun and cleared the fence in right field. In 15 years of big league action so far, Joe has compiled a batting average of .308, along with 2708 hits and 1966 RBI. Joe has managed to hit 30+ homeruns in a season 12 times, and he topped 40 homeruns 9 times. 'Baseball is a great game, and adding something to it's history is smething I've always wanted. What a great day!' It's no secret that he will one day be in the Hall of Fame!
 
Tuesday 4/9/2005: Duncan Idaho fires 2-hitter against Toronto
CLEVELAND - Duncan Idaho had an unexpectedly great performance against Toronto on Tuesday, pitching a 2-hitter for his 1st shutout of the season. Noriyoshi Sano spoiled the bid for a no-hitter when he singled with one out in the 7th inning. Idaho (2-0) fanned 4 and walked none, throwing 98 pitches. 'Hey, that's my job! Everytime I take the mound I give the best I can. And my best stuff was too much for them today.' Cleveland's second baseman Steve Smyk got 2 hits in 4 AB, going deep twice, scoring twice with 2 RBI. That was enough to support the brilliant performance of Idaho. Cleveland improved its record to 4-1, scoring 7 runs on 8 hits.
 
Monday 4/8/2005: San Diego's Kowalski wins Player of the Week award
Lewis Hobson wins his 2nd Player of the Week award. AMERICAN LEAGUE pitchers couldn't figure out how to retire this guy all week long. Lewis went 6 for 16 (.375), while hitting 0 HR and collecting 3 RBI. San Diego's leftfielder Leon Kowalski had some reason to celebrate as well, as the league named him the NATIONAL LEAGUE Player of the Week. Kowalski helped his team with an average of .313 and 6 RBI in 16 at bats.
 
Sunday 4/7/2005: Philadelphia's Swerski out for 4-5 weeks
PHILADELPHIA - Philadelphia's third baseman Bill Swerski will miss at least 4-5 weeks after he got hurt seriously while running hard toward second base. He began limping and then fell down, causing a scary moment for his teammates. He had to be carried off the field. Inflamed Hamstring Muscle was the diagnosis after x-rays were taken in a nearby hospital. The message shocked teammates and team officials.
 
Thursday 4/4/2005: Boris Guzman throws PERFECT GAME against Milwaukee
OAKLAND - Boris Guzman had a historical performance against Milwaukee on Thursday, pitching a perfect game for his 1st shutout of the season. The crowd of 45053 gave him a standing ovation when teammates carried him off the field on their shoulders. 'My catcher called a very good game. I have to give credit to him. He was the main reason I accomplished this feat.' Guzman (1-0) struck out 8 and walked none, throwing 55 of 88 pitches for strikes. Oakland's centerfielder Jamal King finished 2 for 4, hitting a double. That was enough to support the brilliant performance of Guzman. Oakland improved its record to 1-0, scoring 3 runs on 7 hits.
